Subject: Financial Aid Meeting this Monday 10/18

Good Morning Senior Parents!

I hope to see many of you at the Financial Aid Parent Meeting! It will be this coming Monday (10/18) at 5:30 in the HHS library. Before you attend the meeting, please look at the directions linked in the handout below. If possible, you and your student will need to create an FSA ID 24 hours prior to attending the meeting if you want to be able to access the financial aid application. Our meeting is set up to have a presentation during the first half and then a work session during the last half so that you can actually work on completing the FAFSA while you are here with the help of the financial aid counselors. Setting up your FSA ID is very quick – you are basically just setting up your username and password. But it does have to be verified before you can use it to login and it sometimes takes 24 hours for it to get verified. So doing this ahead of time will ensure you can login the night of the meeting. Also included in the handout is the tax information you will need to plug in to your FAFSA application. If you can fill this information in ahead of time, it will make the application super easy! The tax information is based on your 2020 tax return.

I have had many parents asked if they HAVE to attend this meeting. The answer is NO, attendance is not mandatory, but it is mandatory for your student to submit a FAFSA application this year. It is a new graduation requirement for seniors this year to be eligible to graduate. Your senior cannot complete the FAFSA without your help. It will require parent tax information and one guardian will be required to sign-off with a parent FSA ID.  If you have questions or concerns about that, don’t hesitate to reach out so we can talk more about it.

The FAFSA is also required for most scholarships, so even if you think your family makes to much to qualify for financial aid, this is not necessarily the case. Most scholarships now REQUIRE your student to submit a FAFSA to even be able to be considered for scholarship awards.

Subject: Financial Aid Information Session - Monday, Oct. 18

Dear Senior Parents:

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opened on October 1 for seniors. This is a financial aid application that is required by most colleges to be completed and submitted in order for your student to be eligible for any type of financial aid including scholarships, grants, and loans. For the seniors this year, completing the FAFSA is actually now a graduation requirement. To help you with this, Henrietta High School will be offering a parent information session on  Monday, October 18 from 5:30-7:30 pm in the High School Media Center. This information/work session will be hosted by Vernon College, but your student does not need to be attending Vernon to find value in this session. The first hour of the session will be an informational presentation over the types of financial aid available to students, not only at Vernon but at any college or university. The last half of the session will be a work session on the computer where you can actually work on completing your student's FAFSA if you have not yet submitted it. You will need to bring your 2020 tax return information and W-2s to have the information needed to complete the FAFSA during the work session.

We are working on scheduling another parent information session in November (tentatively for November 15 @ 5:30) for those of you that will not be able to attend the October session. You are not required to attend a parent session to complete the FAFSA, but you will find it very helpful to aid you in the process. Here is the link to the FAFSA Website: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thank you,
